| Residency and taxes?
Okay. About 7 months ago I moved from Florida to NC. I went to the nearby college with Finacial aid to start school. They told me finacial aid will not pay for out of state tuition. I have to live here a year to be a NC residence. Now...Ive been paying state taxes, and they took out $583, I went to H&R block for them to do my state taxes, they told me I owe $185 because I made more than I paid in? So. I owe the state of NC but I can't go to school with aid until Im a resident. Im confused with the whole situation and I want to know what I need to do. please help.

You're comparing two different things: - Apparently, for financial aid purposes, you have to live in NC for a year. - At the same time, for tax purposes, you have to pay taxes whenever you start working there. If I were you, I'd pay the taxes that are due. Then, in 5 more months (once you've satisfied the residency rules), reapply for in-state rates. |
