| My wife and I file separate tax returns, does it matter who deducts the mortgage interest on our 2 houses? Me and my wife will file seperate tax returns because during 2007 she lived and worked in Michigan and I lived and worked in Florida. We own a house in Florida and a house in Michigan. I make more money then her so I thought it would be beneficial to deduct the mortgage interest for both houses on my tax return. Is this OK? Or does she have to deduct the interest paid for the MI house on her return? In addition does it matter who deducts the real estate taxes? For example, can she deduct the real estate taxes for both our FL and MI houses on her return? Thanks. |
