Would you teach your child to "hit back" at school if somebody hits them?

Or future children? if you have no kids

By all means, you can't go around being a punching bag for other people.

Officially no. However, my son got suspended for cold cocking the school yard bully. He told me about this guy and he deserved it. Secretly his teachers were proud of him for standing up to this jerk. One teacher gave him a project to be completed when he came back. This teacher checked with him about every night and gave him pointers on how to approach the problem. You didn't hear this from me, but I am one proud father.
