| Would you leave teaching 6th grade to teach high school?
I know this is kind of a specific question, but I've been teaching in 6th grade in an inner-city school for five years and I think it's time for a change. I've been offered to teach ASL as an elective in a suburban district, but I've never taught h.s. Also, the only thing I've ever known is how to teach "Coach Carter" style, so I'm afraid of coming across too rough.
I'm almost POSITIVE that there's absolutely NOTHING that could shock me. (I've had a 13-yr old come to my class drunk, a group get stoned in the bathroom, two boys being naughty with each other in the hallway, personal threats and attacks on my character, etc.) People say that high school is "worse" but I can't imagine it could possibly be.
I'd like to say first that I love my job now despite some of the students, and I know I'm a born teacher, but I'm beginning to get tired of the few things that bother me about being there. Lastly, my salary is phenomenal, being a Title I school and I will take a paycut.Thoughts?
