how do i teach my dog to track human scent?

Me and my little sister got a stray dog and wanted to keep well our nanny said yes and now we want to teach it tricks. well it is half blood hound so is tracking the best trick?

There has to be a lot of obedience training long before you can teach a dog scent work. It is a long process & you need to know how to go about it.

Start out with basic obedience, then into some advanced training & then into scent work. it will be some time before you can start the scent training.

While IT (he/she) is young you can start by placing a treat under a can with several other cans to choose from. Let him/her see you place it there & when he finds it praise him/her. As he/she gets better & better You can hide the treat so he does not see where you put it & let him smell the cans until he finds it. Soon you can remove the cans & hide the treat in different places in the house or out side. But be sure he is hitting it 100% of the time before you move on without the cans.

It can take some time depending the dogs scent abilities but most dogs pick this up fairly quick. This is a good test as to his scent abilities.
