could someone please explain maxims and minimums to me, and how to find them?

i have a test tomorrow, and our teacher didn't get a chance to teach it to us. i know how to trace it and all, i just dont know how far left or right to trace it. and what does "upward/downward bound" mean? please help me!

if you're talking about parabolas, the maxmimum is the highest point of a downward pointing graph and the minimum is the lowest point of an upwards pointing parabola.
