| Why shouldn't the public school teach my son Spanish? Second Grade.?
I live in an an afluent area of Southern California and in the local school district there are federally mandated taxpayer funded ESL or English as a second language programs in most of the elementary schools. My family only speaks English. My plan is to speak at the next school board meeting and request Spanish language classes at no cost to my son and all the other primarily English speaking students. I think that all students should be given an equal opportunity to become gainfully employed once they reach the leagal age to work but I forsee a huge discrepancy. Currently, my son is not being taught Spanish. He will not be bilingual creating limited job opportunities. He needs to learn now because it is easier for children to learn new languages. I don't think this is fair or just. Adelphia, this week 02/26/08 is running an ad for bilingual customer services Reps only. If you are not Spanish/English bilingual you are asked not to apply. What of the future?
