why are we taught to be afraid of death. why is it so scary when it will happen to all of us?

why are we taught to be afraid of death. why is it so scary when it will happen to all of us?

what is there to fear except fearing HOW we will die or when. For eg, I would like to die painlessly and know that I am gonna die and get the chance to say goodbye to my loved ones, than to die suddenly and in terrible circumstances.Is the fear because ultimatley it is completely out of our hands?
