This lunacy traces itself back to at least the Reformation. The whole anti-Catholic "Whore of Babylon" stuff is very popular among Protestants (especially evangelicals) and has been around for ages.

I'm sure the poor fellow must suffer from a horribly severe case of paranoia. Look at some of the material he puts out - the Jesuits are an order of assassins (they aren't - they're teachers), the Pope leads an army of 1.1 billion Catholics that will rise up and overthrow the worlds' governments on his orders, there's a computerized hit list in the Vatican of every "true Christian" in the world...conspiracy theories to the nth degree. These are not the beliefs of a rational person. I suspect he has a serious mental illness, for which I sincerely hope he is receiving treatment. Either that, or he's a chronic liar who is simply being deliberately malicious. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume the former is the case.

The beliefs, practices, preaching style, and message seem to be reminiscent of the ana-baptist movement, which still exists today. Five hundred (ish) years ago when it first popped up, it was just as anti-Catholic as it is today.
