| Are kids today taught to blatently disrespect their elders?
I've seen NUMEROUS posts on here about the age of John McCain. How stupid he is, how misguided, misinformed etc.
The references to his age and how he should be in a retirement home, or in diapers. How his age makes him unfit to be president.
Is this a sign of the times that our children no longer know to have the slightest bit of respect for the wisdom of our elders?
I don't care who you are voting for or why, but why would anybody disrespect the age of a person?
We should look up to our elders, not dishonor them.
So I want to know, how many people here were raised to value their elders? your age? and political affiliation?
I fully agree with respect being earned. However, when a person has lived through the things they have to make it to that age, how can you not respect them. Liking a person and respecting them are 2 diff. things.
A 70yr old person has lived through, the Great Depression, atleast 5 wars, the cold war, the cuban missle crisis, the dev. of technology that we thought would only be in star trek, Civil Rights movement, Womens Lib. They've had to be miners, servers, slaves of sorts. They've been persecuted religiously, racially, sexually. I think they deserve our utmost respect and care.
Bert: do you realize you wouldn't have a country if it weren't for those "old people". You wouldn't have a job, a decent way of life, or even food. They laid the ground work, they put forth the effort. They took care of you! What about your own mother, grandmother/father? Do they not deserve your respect?
