I am planning on going to school next year for teaching 2nd grade. Help?

I am just the average teenager, can someone (a teacher maybe) give me a few suggestions and break down the schooling for me to get a better understanding? Thanks alot.
Also, much money do you make a year? My boyfriend is going to be a firefighter. Will it be enough income? How many years of school all together? Is it very difficult to get a job as a teacher?
