...orthodox Bible teaching? Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones said:
"To state the Truth is not enough, it must be sated "in demonstration of the Spirit and of power". And that is what George Whitefield so gloriously illustrates. He was orthodox, but the thing that produced the phenomenon was the power of the Spriti upon him. He says that he felt something even at his ordination, as if he had received a commission from the Spirit Himself. He was always conscious of this - wave after wave of the Spirit would come upon him. This power of the Spirit is essential. We must be orthodox, but God forbid us to rest even on orthodoxy." (The Puritans pp 126-7)
"You can be orthodox but dead. Why? Well, because you are stopping at the doctrines, you are stopping at the definitions, and failing to realize that the whole purpose of doctrine is not to be an end in itself but to lead us to knowledge, understanding and fellowship" (Revival p58).
Do you agree or not, and why?
