Start in a room. Go up several feet from a wall and throw one of the dog's favorite toys at the wall while saying fetch. When the dog gets it say his/her name, to help with later training. As the dog goes by, you'll be close enough to grab him/her by they collar. Take the toy and give the dog praise and affection. Repeat. Slowly, day after day, increase the distance between you and the wall. Sometimes you can reward the dog with treats. Then try it outside or with different toys when your dog gets really good at it.

Throw it to the dog, and then make sure there is more than 1 person so you can catch the dog, then take the toy out of her mouth, and throw it again. She will eventually catch on! Just have some patience! =)

Many dogs respond to training differently, but this is one way to attempt it, but you would need two people.

Person 1 has the treats and the throwing item. Show it to Betty Boo get her excited about it and toss it just a little bit away. Person 2 walks with Betty Boo or goes to ball/toy and calls her. Together they walk back together with item. Have Betty Boo drop item willingly or take it from her, it's best to have a larger dog learn early on to allow things to be taken from their mouths. Reward her with a treat. Continue with short range until she does it on her own. Then you can work on throwing it further. Some dogs have attention span problems so if you throw it where they can't see it, they won't fetch.

Another tip. Use only one word to signal for fetching. Multiple words or different words tend to confuse.
