I am getting ready to move to the country and want to teach my dog to potty

in one area only? I have a 14 month old great dane who has lived in an apartment home all his life - all potty breaks are done on leash and are bagged..... I just bought 20 acres and want him to learn to go in the same general area - how do I teach him to do this?

do scold him when he does it in the wrong place by actually taking the shit towards him n making him smell it..so the dog will actually realize that the scolding is for the shit he has put..do remove the smell of shit where he isnt supposed to be put..regularly take him to a place where he is supposed to do it, at times when he wud do a potty..regular practice will make him get adjusted to the area..

Put up a puppy pen and take it out ten minutes after it eats and about every two or three hours

Leash the dog awhile, walk to same area every time, till trained to go to that area.

but, I must warn you, once off the leash and 20 acres, good luck, its every dog for himself, ha ha

the dog will love the freedom, and may not go to same general area till the freedom and thrill of it all wears off

you need to get a shovel, when he goes, take the "poo" and put it where you want him to go. keep doing this and put it in the same place and keep it there for a while(it might seem gross but this works!) dogs like to go in the same place every time. that's just how they are. eventually he will wing up going in the same spot every time. remember to reward him when he does it in his own!

take him to the same spot everytime you take him out. it will have to be on a leash at first. tell him "go potty" or whatever your command would be. and he will eventually learn that, that spot is where he needs to go. reward him when he goes in that spot, and ignore him when he goes somewhere else.
