How can I get started writing children's books? I am in my seventh year as a...

...teacher I taught 3rd and now 1st. I am a grad elelmentary ed student at Fordham and I am graduating in June I have an undergrad degree in art and love to write I want to supplement my income with writing I saw an ad for the institute for childrens literature in connecticut but worry it is a money making place how can i get started i was thinking of asking my professors as well.
