| how do i stop getting parents to ask me to teach private lessons?
ok in my karate class the parents are constantly asking me to teach private lessons. i am 15 and my sensei has no more spots for lessons so everyone keeps asking me, since i am the next advanced belt. The kids they want me to give lessons to are aged 3-4 incredibly hyperactive and really don't want to be there. To be honnest i'm just not into teaching right now. I have told the parents that i am too busy, i'm focussing on my school work all of which are true. I talked w/ my teacher and she got the parents to stop asking for 1 month, and now they are asking again. My mom has also said that i won't teach please help!! what can i do short of switch schools the parents are trying to bribe me now. and i am mobbed before and after class, the parents line up at the door. which i don't undertsand because i'm not all that. I am good for my age and level but not worth a delux spa package. (also can i take the bribes and not teach?) can i take the bribes and then tell them i can't? yes, i'd be paid 10$ for 1/2 an hour. |

Arn't you getting paid anyway? In our dojo you get paid for private lessons its never free Anyway if you dont want to do them just dont do them, explain to them you have a lot of school work and just dont have the time, even for money to help and that you'll help tem out in class when you can |

This is a "good problem". The answer is....set a very high price. Everyone, it seems, is pressed for time but surely you can find a few hours a week to teach. If you are in such demand and your school is full ask your instructor if you can set up a satellite school. The integrity of your art must come first.....but face it.....itsa business. You would be foolish not to take this chance to expand your art and teach people who want to throw money at you. goodluck!

Well, just tell them no. Or you could charge them an outrageous amount. Like $100 bucks per 1/2 hour. When they tell you know, just shrug and say thats the going rate. At least then if your still getting mobbed to do it you'll have good start up cash for college. Good lucK! |

Well if this is all true then, you just have to tell them that you don't have the time in YOUR life right now, or that you don't feel ready to teach. Speak from your heart my friend, don't lie or cheat or take bribes from other people. If that is truly happining then you need to speak up and tell your teacher.
