Don't teach a drowning person how to swim?

How does this metaphor apply to real life circumstances?

Wouldn't it make more sense to save his/her life first? It reminds me of people that think it's cute to hand job applications and give lectures to homeless people. Who would hire them before they get cleaned up and have an address and phone number? But then again, who cares, right? Let them 'drown'. I'm sure they all asked for their plight somehow.

well... i dont agree with it. its saying.. basically look:

if somebody does not know Christ (which i dont care if you do or not because i know He is real) you can't make them change

or saying.. if you smoke, you better just make a will, because you are going to die very very soon no matter what.

the saying is just telling people to give up.. i totally disagree with that quote. its horrible.
