How do you teach a horse to Lay Down?

I see all these people getting there horses to lay down, i know it takes a lot of trust from your horse and owner.....and i think i am that far with my horse and feel im ready to try.....what are the first steps.......

these sort of tricks can take a while, maybe wait till he is laying down naturally and then give him a treat and say "lay down" . Also, maybe put a headcollar and leadrope on and do a specific, simple movement with the leadrope, e.g gently pulling downwards or swishing it gently. Just as long as this movement isnt used for something else. Or, you could maybe put your hand in a downwards motion, say "lay down" and feed him a treat. Keep doing this every time you find him laying down.
