Do we really teach people how to treat us?

Ok I heard Oprah say more than once on her talk show, that we teach others how to treat us. I'm not very good with comebacks, but I have gotten better at expressing my opinion and letting people know how I feel. I guess that's better than not saying anything or not doing anything.
