How do I make my teaching resume stand out if I haven't taught for a while?

(I've been in school but want to go back to teaching.) Will that kill my chances of landing a teaching job?

In my state there is a big push for teachers who are highly qualified in Math and Science. That means having a masters, passing the praxis or having cumulative experience that satisfies the criterion.

To find out if you meet highly qualified standards call your school systems central office and have them direct to the person in charge of managing the information for the highly qualified status. There will be someone in charge of it due to NCLB requirements pushing highly qualified status.

Also, what is your extracurricular specialty?
Sports, cheer leading, music, debate team, drama, volunteer work? Do you speak a second language? Which one of these can you focus on in your resume that will make you stand out as someone having something extra to offer?

A teacher shortage is coming very, very quickly. The
baby boomers are aging out leaving big gaps in all areas of education. There will be a need for you, get your resume ready and get out there.

Good luck to you.
