How do I teach my 11 month old to drink from a sippy cup??

My 11 month old daughter is not sure how to use the sippy cup, she just chews on the top of it. I can tell she wants to know how, but its a lot bigger then a nipple. Any idea's on how to teach her how to use it? I tried showing her by doing it myself, but she just kept chewing. Am I starting her too early on it? HELP! And it is a 6 month + one,
I tried the NUK, but it was to soft it seemed, and all she did was chew on it too. So we now have the Gerber one, and she seems to like it, just can't get the hang of it.
And we did try it when she was about 6 months, but it was also a no go lol
