| Atheists: Could we all agree that we are followers of Jesus' teaching?
Excluding his immaculate conception, deification, the creation of the world by him, his miraculous powers, his resurrection and visible ascension, his corporeal presence in the Eucharist, the Trinity, original sin and atonement; could we say that Christians and Atheists alike are followers of Jesus’ MORAL teachings? Thomas Jefferson took his bible, cut out all the jibber-jab and arranged Jesus’ words on pages of a blank book in a certain order of time and subject. “A more beautiful or precious morsel of ethics I have never seen; it is a document in proof that I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus.” “The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth” Also called the “Jefferson Bible” I'm still looking for some middle ground for believers and non-believers in this forum... Well back in those days, the Emperor's and Caeser's were considered "god's". The term God was used more loosely back then. ALARSN- You will find that many new comers to this section are confused at how many atheists there are. Most of the atheists are ex-Christians who now, after stepping outside the Christian-box, find that way of thinking humorous and adolescent. Your options are to get defensive and resort to name calling and thumbs-downing, or allow this to strengthen your faith. We’re going to be DRINKING no matter what…(drink) |

Morals are not the sole property of religion or Jesus. If anything biblical writings took the ideas of morals from previous societies. Morals are a code of conduct held to be authoritative in matters of right and wrong. Morality refers to an ideal code of conduct, one which would be espoused in preference to alternatives by all rational people, under specified conditions. Morals are the creation of a society and were part of human interaction long before Jesus or Christianity. |

yes Jesus had great morals, no doubt. One thing that does bother me a little, was that he made his disciples leave their families, completely divorce from them, in order to follow him. That seems a little cultish, but other than that I think he had great morals. Jesus could be viewed as a great teacher, such as Ghandi, or Martin Luther King Jr. But I wouldnt call myself a follower of him, I mean would you call yourself a follower of Ghandi? |
