| If you could dictate how your child would be taught about religion in school...?
...what would you have the district do? Would you prefer your child to be brought up with your religion being taught exclusively at their school? Would you like them to be exposed to all religion? Would you like them to grow up without ever hearing of religion? Would you like them to make the choice, or would you prefer that what you view as the 'correct' choice be taught to them at school? Also, what is your religious and/or philosophical orientation? |

I was very pleased with my children's education in respect of religion. They learned about all the major religions but were indoctrinated in none of them. They grew up to be decent, tolerant humanists with friends of all religions and none. Just like me. |

No religion should be taught in school. Even religious people agree with this. It's only a handful of fundies, and 'intelligent design advocates' (read: creationists) that want to force their religious beliefs into the classroom, or post the 10 commandments in schools. |

It amuses me that in the vocally 'Christian' States this is a big issue, whereas in the mostly secular UK little fuss is made. My daughter has learnt about the world's major religions, their festivals and main beliefs from the beginning of her schooling. At least she has enough information to make an informed choice about her own beliefs. She has learnt to debate, while taking others' views into consideration. She has learnt the value of empathy and compassion (although she would also have learnt about these at home). She has learnt about the similarities that bind us humans together and the differences that make us interesting to each other. I believe that she has benefited from her lessons in 'Religious Education'. I find it odd that people would assume otherwise. My wife is an atheist. So is my daughter, who incidentally is top of her RE class. I am... I'm not sure. Spiritual but not religious, if that will do? Peace and light. . |

Good grief no! I want my children to learn art, music, math, reading, literature, history.....not religion. My children ARE raised in religion. Thier souls are MY responsiblity, not the governments. Why on EARTH would I want the government in my beliefs? |

It says in the bible to instruct your child in the right path.... Jesus When he is based on the foundation of the truth, i dont think its necesaraly a bad Idea to learn other religions, it might be a good thing because then he may have a better knowing and understanding of others thus making it easier to spread the gospel of Christ. |

I am catholic and I wish there were a catholic school where we live, but a public school I personally think should in no way teach a religion, however I also believe that they should not propogate a philosophy or theory either like atheism and evolution. THATS what I really wish.
