JAMES C has a spectacular aura about
i`m just curious but does lubavitcher judiasm teach its followers to take a modern

approach to jewish life? my reason for asking is i was in crown heights earlier this week and i got the impression that although i did`nt speak to any they were a lot more open and freindly and in terms of the women dress it was still modest but they wernt almost obesscively thinking can i wear this or not ie they were casually but modestly dressed.

i found this quite a contrast to flatbush ave where they were all dressed as modestly as anything and the women seemed to have their heads shaved and were wearing scarves over their heads

Lubavitch has a approach towards dressing (from what I've seen from my Rabbi and other chabad chassidim near me) that it should be modest but fashionable. Lubavitcher women prefer to cover their hair with a wig rather than a scarves, since the last Rebbe stressed this.

Lubavitchers tend to be very friendly since they learn that we are all Jews and we have no ability nor right to judge another person in terms of how holy or close to G-d they are, so we feel close to every Jew.

Regarding some other things that might be considered "modern";
Regarding T.V., it is rare to find one in a Lubavitchers home.
Usually Lubavitchers have a normal job during the day and learn at night (or early in the morning).
We are taught to interact with the world and to bring light there, not to sink into our warm and cozy tight-knit communities and stay away from the "bad" Jews.

On a side note, usage of the the word "modern" is not accurate, this ideology has been going on for quite some time now.
