Does It Bother You That Christianity Teaches...?

That humans are inherently sinful AKA bad. A Christian coworker of mine once explained Christianity to me. He said that we are all born like dirt and we must work our way to God by becoming "cleaner." While I agree that humans are naturally selfish, I would not agree that we are naturally "dirty."

Yes, it does bother me.

You are punished immediately for being born - for being human. And then you have to worry about everything else, but right from the get-go, you're in trouble because you were born.

It's one reason I could NEVER be Christian.

I don't see the need to worship a god that has set his "favorite creatures" up for imminent failure from Day One.

The following is part of an answer from a Christian, posted months ago, to a question :

You are a murdering, lying, thieving rapist in the sight of God. So was I. Nothing except circumstance and opportunity separate you from Adolf Hitler. God Bless!

********

I wonder how many Christians think this way. It is frightening to me that these people think that they should have control of the government. This can never, ever be allowed to happen.

No because Christianity also says that Jesus came to make us pure. So while there is a problem, there is also an easy to obtain solution, a soft ware update if you wish.

Whether it bothers you or not, the truth is, we are far from God in our sinful nature. However, we cannot work our way toward God by becoming cleaner. In our own power, there is nothing we can do to achieve enough cleanliness to be allowed in the presence of the Almighty. But, that is not the end of the story.

Jesus' sacrifice on the cross was the final sacrifice needed to give man the opportunity to become clean before God. He was raised again from the dead and intercedes for His children. Now, all we need to do is believe that He is and did all that, accept Him as Savior and Lord, acknowledging and repenting of our sin. When we do that, we are clean before a holy and righteous God.

Humans are more than naturally selfish. We are also naturally prideful, naturally vengeful, lustful, greedy, etc. - in all of that we lie, cheat, steal, murder, and more. Even in our hearts, we are guilty of many of these things - which is often just as bad as committing the crime.

We cannot work our way to God. That is why He came in the Son, Jesus, to live with us, die for us and rise again and live for us.
