Scared about career in teaching? Please help me out!?

I just graduated with degree in education and love teaching but I am afraid of the way it is going. Budget cuts, teachers being layed off....I don't want to take a job and then find myself jobless the next day. I'll be living on my own and will practically be homeless! I hear that principals can not renew your contract within the first two years for ANY reason. As a first year teacher, of course I'll be struggling more than veteran teachers and I'll be so worried if my students aren't always behaving, etc.

Any advice? I don't want to end up on the streets from either a budget cut or non-renewed contract. Please help.

...and I LOVE teaching.

you don't have a safety net of family or friends?

When i lost my first job after college at age 24, i had to bum with my parents for a couple months till i found a new one.
IT's a lot better than living in my car for 2 months !

I also had friends who were still in college and they offered to let me move in with them as a room mate if i wanted to.

You should make sure that you SAVE money like crazy during your first year, and if you still have your job after a year, keep saving. You NEED to have 6 months living expenses of pure cash saved up and earning interest so that if you lost your job, you could pay the bills, and buy food for 6 full months without having to worry. Plus, you will have unemployment checks as well, which will help. You will have to live like a pauper for a couple years (it's more important to save than to buy a fancy couch or eat at nice restaurants for example). Shun ALL credit cards too. They can destroy your financial life for decades.

well it all depends on where you live. you see probably you see all of these negatives by where you live but that might not be the case in other neighborhoods. so i suggest to look everywhere and have all the best options analyzed before you settle in. don't worry i'm sure you'll do fine
