Teaching english in Hong Kong?

What is the most recognised qualification for teaching english in Hong Kong? Do you need a university degree or could you just do a weekend TEFL?

Most Chinese schools (lower and middle) will accept you if you complete the year long intensive course (equivalent to 2 year teaching cerificate). The good thing is that you can use this cert in almost any country as it is recognised worldwide.

Added to this that you are a native speaker of the English language - and boom you are in. It will also allow you to apply for a Visa relating to skilled professional (the Higher professor jobs) . Unless you have a degree or this certificate , some placement groups will not consider you.

A degree is preferential however I have come across graduate teachers (recent and "long in the tooth") that are poorly suited, miseducated and absolutely out of their league in the classroom. I have witnessed teacher aids doing a better job.

Good luck and happy hunting - Korea is also good.
