Why is it that American christianity teaches...?

...that if you say this prayer you will be saved. It is not a formula! Where does this come from? IT IS NOT BIBLICAL! When Jesus stands at the door and knocks, He is referring to a CHURCH, NOT A PERSON!

Why has the teaching of the church fallen to this watered down, weak gospel?
John 6:44 teaches that noone comes to Christ unless the Father calls him first. Why do churches teach that if you say this formula you'll be saved?

When did we as a people become so biblically ignorant?

Here's my thought, when a person says "Jesus, I accept you into my heart/life as Lord and Saviour, this is the first ACT OF OBEDIENCE AS A CHRISTIAN. The person in this scenario wasn't saved because they said the prayer, God already had them in His grasp, the person felt it, and bam, there you have it.
For us to think that by saying this prayer will save us goes against Eph 2:8,9. If we could say a prayer and be saved by that alone, it would be works.
