| Christians, how can Creationism be taught in public school science classes
as "an alternative" to evolution? This is a sincere question, not an attack: The extreme age of the Earth, its epochal history, and the evolution of life are all taught in science classes because, at least to the satisfaction of most scientists, in all fields, in all nations, they have been proven. So... How can a supernatural explanation for the creation of the Earth and life on Earth, including Biblical Creationism, be taught as an "alternative theory" in science classes? Many people believe in astrology, that the position of stars and planets determine the outcome of events. Should astrology then be taught as an "alternative theory" to physics and mathematics? Some people sincerely believe that the stars are angels, or the spirits of the dead. Should that belief then be taught as an "alternative theory" to astronomy? Most people would say "No" to both. So how can you say that Creationism (even if you call it "intelligent design") should be taught as an "alternative theory" to cosmology & evolution? |

So, who says that it has to be taght in lieu of science? Keep the science class and add a class on creationism so students get a well-rounded education and can make up their own minds which to believe. The schools have no business telling a child what it can believe and what it cannot. Make the class an elective (as are most language classes) so that only those who are interested in the class will attend and no one will be upset because a class is teaching something they do not believe. Some of the material I learned in school was foreign to me but, I was not at liberty to opt out of it. Those classes were mandatory. |

Hey, I'm an atheist and I have no problem with it being taught in science class. Just as soon as they come up with a scientific theory of Creationism/Creation Science/ID, and some verifiable evidence to support it over the Theory of Evolution. Until then we will just have to limp along with the ToE that has produces so many advances in biology and medicine. Think how fast we will make discoveries when they finally sort out the ToID! And yes, I am being sarcastic. |

I think Creationism/ID should be taught in science class as an example of why science is a good thing and magical thinking is a bad thing. Kids need to learn about stuff like creationism, ID, astrology, faith healing and others so that they are ready to deal with all the nuts out in the world.
