Why do schools constantly not teach what goes on around the world today?

All I ever learned through out school was history! Europes history, Asias history, Canadas history, African hstory! but what about America today! People say kids today are ignorant and don't care but thats only because people don't teach them to care. Instead people use computers and TVs as baby sitters for children to watch Spongebob and Billy and Mandy!
They aren't taught to care, they have no one ever teaching them about what effects them today!

We are forced to teach the curriculum which is directly tied to the state tests. It's all a part of NCLB. Gotta love it!
