To teachers: why did you decide that you wanted to go into teaching?

How did you decide what age group and/or subject you wanted to teach?

Just curious...

guy has a spectacular aura about
I can remember, back when I attended high school, I thought I could do a better job than some of the teachers I had to put up with. During active duty military service, I gained experience to stand before large groups of people and be able to conduct a class. I became a teacher later in life but never in the grades I wanted. I had to take state tests which dictate which grades and subjects I may teach. Also, when I entered a school to teach, the Principal told me which grades and types of kids to teach. I always wanted to teach Fifth grade in a public school setting. In my career, I taught 7th and 8th grade Science and Math; in high school: Algebra I & II; Geometry; GED; and Basic Business. The settings were in a disciplinary school and in a state correctional facility.
