How do you teach a hamster to stop biting?

I have recently have bought a dwarf hamster and he won't stop biting and hitting me, yes i know it sounds funny but he does like to hit and if you don't move your hand after a couple, he'll move to biting you and i really don't want to have to return him because he bites

The problem is it's going through sexual maturity stage. Mine was like it he'd bite the hands off you. All you have to do is stop picking him up for about 2 weeks so it'll pass. and then once you notice he/she has stopped biting than you can go to step 2. Handling your hamster more often , put on gloves and start picking it up like 3 and 4 times a day which will tame it and sure enough he'll get use to it . and he'll be ok to handel again Mine turned out ok. good luck.

Try putting a little cayenne pepper on your hands. don't pick the hamster up as the powder will go into the fur. But if it bites you and gets a taste of the pepper a few times it may get the message.

Please remember that it is a rodent and chewing and biting are what they do. Keep it away from your face!

well, i've never had that problem but someone we knew that gave me one of my first hamsters said that if they bite, they would cup their hands around them and LIGHTLY shake them. but not too hard, just very gently just to teach them. and if you handle them a lot they usually get used to it. also, after you buy a hamster you should not handle it within 24 hours of putting it in its cage.

Hamsters get nervous and bite a lot when they first move to a new home. Don't worry; give it a week or so, then try holding it again. With most hamsters, biting is a sign of being scared, mishandled, or not handled enough. But some hamsters are just mean because they're inbred.
