Technologies that affect boys and girls?

Hi, I have to do an essay on technologies that affect the lives of 7th graders. ( Boys, and girls). So, I was wondering how the email, chat, and cellphone affect the 7th grader. Any other technologies in mind, please list them, and state how they affect a 7th grader;s life. Like video games, or etc.. Thank you!
Please just give me three technologies that affect the same aspect of a 7th grader's life. And state how. Such as video games, can be used for logic, and etc.
