Tonsils out....with new technology...does it still hurt as bad?

I've had so many problems with strep throat and throat infections that I might get my tonsils out this summer...

I want to know if it still hurts as bad as I've heard.
Does it matter how old you are? Because i'm in my 20's...if that helps.
