| Will technology eventually ruin our children's basic skills?
Between spell check and calculators are our children going to be able to do anything manually? I am 21 and have no kids yet but I see what the appearance of spelling/grammar check has done to people's grammar skills. I have found myself somewhat dependent on calculators but I can at least still do the work with pen and paper if necessary. When it comes time for me to have children and they grow up with spell/grammar checks and calculators, will they ever figure out how to do these things properly? |

99% see todays children they want a calculater for a simple addition subtraction....cannot memorise simple poems cannot draw simple lines.....our parents or even the labour class who do not use the technology much can calculate fast than the educated person the great work of art was done in the past and the great music or any creative work was much much better in yesteryears even the coputer savy person cannot write a page without the help of sell check of the computer

Not a snowballs chance in jury our kids will be so tech Dependent that the pen and paper will be obsolete which is sad all kids should be able to do basic math by pen and paper i understand if they are a engineer or scientist working with goofy numbers they need technology but taking 25% of a 100 should be able to be done in your head, and if you cant spell it don't use it in a letter

Technology definitely improve the quality of children and the whole man kind. Those who do not want to improve can not improve. I studied the computer at the age of 66 and with it I got a lot of benefit. I purchased this computer 60 days back, now I am handling e-mail. I used calculator in the office but I continue to practise the arithmetic Murali |

Literacy isn't an instinct. Don't worry a lot, because grammar and math skills are dependent upon what skills are being used. If superior skills in these areas begin to elevate people, they will learn them. If reading is a skill people don't use much, then being an avid reader will give no particular advantage. People stay the same throughout epochs, only necessities change.
