Okay, here's the fictional scenario: the Aztec Empire was not in a state of civil war because they defeated all their rebellious vassals before the Spanish arrived and when the Spanish did arrived, Cortes and all of his soldiers did not survive the Aztec Rebellion. And then the Aztecs deciphered the guns, cannons, crossbows and amour that the Spanish left behind and made their own guns and cannons plus all their vassals are loyal to them because they do not want to be massacred again by the Aztec's religious sacrifice so they are forced to make the new weapons and amour. The Aztec then invade the neighborly Mayan City-states and gain more power.

The Spanish come again, without the knowledge of Cortes' fate aside from he fact he knows that Cortes and his ships disappeared and was never heard from again. This explorer is more prepared than Cortes but when they enter Aztec territory, they are attacked and defeated but they retreat for another day.
