Not hearing about something doesn't mean it isn't happening.

In fact, I would argue that technology is the reason we know about such things happening. We've come to expect access to as much information as possible. We no longer accept that certain things can hide in the shadows.

The Internet provides a place for people to gather, discuss and feel empowered. It's a GOOD thing that the priests who molested children were exposed. It's a GOOD thing to try to prevent children from being abused.

You couldn't know what was happening all around the world before that, and a lot of abuses were hidden or brushed under the table. Woman and children were seen as property so they could be raped and abused with nobody ever caring.

We have laws now and we have the media to let ppl know and be aware of the evils that go on, -it also has helped solve cases and find missing ppl.

The only way the damage can be undone is if the people of the world (especially the wealthier nations) change their attitudes and lifestyles so they consume less, conserve more and stop wasting the planet's resources.

Today I saw an item on the news (BBC 1) that the oceans are awash with plastic. Much of this is getting washed up on Midway Island because of the Pacific currents where it is causing the deaths of seabirds and other creatures. A scientist who was interviewed said that even if plastic dumping stopped now it would still be around getting beached for generations to come.

This isn't the work of the devil. It's the work of humans who are too short-sighted to see the long-term consequences of their actions.

Change is possible, it will take masses of people to do it but at least we could limit the damage.
