Why did it take 2000 years for technology to advance?

Why did it take so long for human beings to have all the technology we have today?

Except for the Dark Ages, which lasted for a couple hundred years, there has never been a long period of time where science and inventing was at a stand-still. Humans have always been inventing and re-inventing and improving.
