Why do women expect you to act upbeat when speaking to them (for the 1st time)?

Why do women expect you to act upbeat when speaking to them (for the 1st time)?

I call women up, or women call me for the first time to speak to me. They keep asking me 'why do I sound down'. It is how I normally talk. Why do women expect you to act upbeat when talking to them? I mean, can a guy just be himself, just for once??? I think women asks for too much from a guy, firsthand.
