Maya has acting and directing mixed up, but anyway. Effective acting is measured by 5 things. 1. Believability-does the actor seem to be the character? 2. Accuracy- is the performace free from errors? 3. Facility-Does the actor make it look easy? 4.Communication-does the actor cause you to feel emotions and understand concepts? 5. Charisma-does the actor make you want to see him perform again, would you like to hang out with him?

Close your eyes, does it sound like the person is acting if so then it is bad acting. Are you aware of the fact they are acting? Then it is bad acting. Does their body and face say something different than what their mouth is saying? It is bad acting. Good acting should sound honest and truthful and is done with the entire being not just a regurgitation of lines. i consider the finest actors in the films these days to include Glenn Close, Judy Davis, Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Angela Bassett, watch their performances. Try watching the film Beloved, that was an amazingly fantastic film. Then try something a little less stellar like that movie with Halle Barry and Bruce Willis that came out last year I dont recall the title but it was about a c- in my book, watch Giovanni Ribisi in the film note his face, his physicality (He is smashing) now watch Halle Barry in the same scenes, you notice how she doesn't really captivate an audience she is pretty, but she is not engaging as an actor. now watch Bruce Willis, he is pretty stock in his performances but he does what he does REALLY WELL, now rewind the scene and watch Halle Barry, she does not take ownership of the scenes at any given time, she allows these actors to upstage her just by giving what is an average performance for them, she is obviously out of her league. She is okay but she is not fantastic. |

95% of all actors today are bad, they have no range or style they are hyped to the max, most of the real actors are dead so you can tell because when you see real acting you will know it immediatley the rest is just speaking the lines.
