My dog's acting strange....?

Hi. I have a male and a female cocker spaniel, approximately 5 years ago we spayed the girl. The problem is that since yesterday or so my boy dog has been trying to hump her (sorry if that's not the correct word for this). He's really excited and he won't stop whining. I'm worried, I don't know if there might be something wrong with him because of his age (I'm not exactly sure how old he is but he might be around 10) or if it's her that might be emitting some sort of smell.

If anyone has any idea what's going on, please help!
