Now he is acting all sad..why?

Here is whats going on now, with the ex. He left me for this girl, came back to me, then left again. The times I would talk to him I would beg him and cry and blah blah blah. Now, I told him I dont want his dumb ass back and that I'm done with him. He came over to my house last night and asked why I was being so mean and he told me he was sorry for hurting him. When I looked at him his eyes were watering. The girl he is staying with again said some stuff behind his back that he didnt like. He told me he hasnt asked her out because he is confused. He left, but came back like a second later and I said "what? I'm checking my voice mail" and he just turned around sadly and went out the door. Is he realizing he messed up with me now? He also left a message on his myspace saying "all I need is me so haters keep hating" what does that mean? Before he thought I would always be there and now I think he is knowing that I may not be....why is he acting all sad?? He hasnt tried callin today either
I mean he told me he was sorry for hurting me.
