hankaaron has a spectacular aura about
Home Theater Reciever cuts off.?

I have had three different recievers with the same problem. When playing a loud section of a Standard DVD or an HD-DVD, the reciever will cut off.
If I am playing a bitstream output, such as Dolby Digital, it happens at a lower volume than the PCM audio output. I have even disconnected all speaker connections from the reciever, and the problem still occurs.
The problem also occurs with both SPDIF and HDMI. I have the reciever connected to it's own outlet and have the same result.
The volume setting is around 50% to 60% when the failure occurs. All the receviers were at least 75W per channel rms.
Any suggestions?
