Strange F1 trivia question?

Just reading and found something odd:

Guy Ligier scored one point as a driver in his F1 career.

It came at the 1967 German GP at the Nürburgring, yet he was classified 8th and the scoring system was 9-6-4-3-2-1 for 1st-6th places.

None of the drivers who finished ahead of him were disqualified, so how did he score his point?

(I do know the answer, I'm just giving you something to do until practice starts tomorrow...)
