2. In which year was the NHL founded?

1. Detroit Red Wings. Boston Bruins are th second most successful US based team with 5 Stanley Cup wins.

2. 1917. There was only about a handful of teams at the start.

2) The league was founded in 1917 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada with four teams, and through a series of expansions, contractions and relocations, the league is now composed of 30 teams, 24 of which are based in the United States and six in Canada.
