| How do you get spray paint off of a guitar? I have a guitar like this- http://crescentdirect.com/main/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/100260d05e3f5b3b114a516209c57bab.jpg and It has gold spray paint on the front, don't ask how it got there=] But my question is: How would I get it off? I'm only 13 so I don't have many options, is there anything I can use thats just around the house? Also.. If I was to paint it, what kind of paint would I use? nail polish remover? cuz if its just nail polish then it'll be permanent and colorful.. |

| If it is normal 'shake can' spray paint, start with spraying WD-40 on it, then spray some on a clean rag and start wiping it off. Do NOT use nail polish remover-that is considered a 'hot' chemical-and could easily soften up or remove the factory finish on the guitar. Chances are good your guitar has a clear coat finish to protect it-and WD 40 will remove most things stuck on clear coat without damaging what is underneath it. If the WD 40 doesn't get it off, next up-try a citrus based hand cleaner. If it can go on your skin-it isn't a strong solvent (hot) so still, less chance of damaging it. If THAT doesn't work-then you want to try an ADHESIVE remover (one brand is Gunk Off ) which is a slightly stronger citrus based cleaner. Another non-solvent remover-mineral oil (mineral spirits). Not the kind used for a laxative or baby oil...but the one used for cleaning paint brushes. Your goal is to work your way through cleaners that will not harm the original finish on the guitar. Chances are very good that one or several of what I mentioned will work. I have to clean off signs all the time from vandalism, or even overspray from us making new signs. So take your time and be careful! |
