Sounds like the plaster may not have been fully dried before you skimmed. Wait a few days and try again.

Is skimming the same as priming? If it is, then I have it correct, if it isn't, you need to apply primer to plaster before you attempt to paint over it.

Have fun

On some parts of our newly skimmed walls paint won't stick. Whats the problem?

We have just had our kitchen plasterboarded and then skimmed. We've just come to paint the walls and the paint will not take to certain areas of the walls. Does anyone know what the problem is and how we can fix it?

It needs to dry for at least a week, pref two before you paint. Then paint with matt emulsion thinned 70% paint 30% water (ish) first.

You may need to use a primer in order to have the paint to stick. Most kitchen walls need a coat or two of primer. It keeps the grease stains from soaking into the wood/plaster. I would call painting contractor or a paint store, they would be able to tell you the best method to use..
