The pencil's markings (HB - 9B) signify the hardness of the lead. The harder the lead, the darker the mark is going to be. What I typically do is start off with a very light lead, since this makes for easy erasing and corrections. Sketch out a prelim of the drawing and note and specific areas where color shifts. The most fundamental part is to start viewing color and not the object. This will reduce the use of outlining and help to create a more fluid drawing. Don't mind the small details at first, thats all stuff that should be taken care of once the base is down.

Remember not to overwork the drawing because things can always be added a lot easier than they can be removed. Take your time, have patients, and work as big as possible to help get the fundamentals down.

well it would really help if you held your pencil sideways. like as if you were laying the pencil down. and if you want to see someone shading, go on youtube and typein something like how to shade when drwawing. hope this helped.
