Paint or stain an outdoor storage building?

Had a new storage building build recently. It is 12x12 and constructed of unfinished wood siding. Looks very nice with detailed grooves but needs a finish to protect and preserve. Would it be best to paint or stain this type of building?

Stain as this will let the natural wood show thru rather than gloss paint which will cover all the effects of the wood
