How to draw a person transforming into a chair or jacket?
I am drawing a manga for a friend of mine and need to draw a transformation sequence for the story. Its a story similer to Harry Potter about a school of wizards. He wants me to draw a picture of a boy being transformed or morphed into a chair and another boy transforming into a jacket (I think a sports jacket).
He wants them for the cover of the piece so I need to do a really detailed shapeshifting sequence. I have done werewolf pieces and another with a tiger but I have never done one of inanimate objects.
I am thinking of doing it in the style of those Animorph covers (like this image http://www.davidmattingly.com/Media/No_M... ).
But I don't know how to draw a person transforming a chair or jacket. If I draw a chair I guess his head could be the chair rest and limbs the chair legs, but turning into a jacket is more difficult, where would his head and legs go.
If you have any ideas for drawing this piece please tell. Also paste links of similer images.

As an manga/anime artist myself all I can say is if it were me I would.

1. - Show how they orgianally were.
2. - Show them slowly transforming(getting smaller)
3. - Show like there bodies getting smaller and taking shape.
4. - Finally showing them as the chair and jacket.

I have never drawn anything like that but, thats probably how I would do it.

I'd show them in their original form, then show them getting into the position they'd have to hold to mimic the object, and then show them as the object (with colors that match their clothing) with some facial features and/or other details.

You're right, this is easier to visualize in the case of a chair (it's easy to squat like a chair and hold your arms like they were rests) but in the case of a jacket, draw them moving their shoulders and arms forward as if to hold the wearer. If you think of clothes as doing that, perhaps the shift would be easier.

Are they going to shift directly onto a person? Are they going onto a hanger or hook?

Some of these would need your imagination in order to figure out how they'd move in order to shift.

For the chair, you should probably just draw his legs as chir leegsIf you put him at an angle where you can see some of his back or chest, that part could also have morphed partly into the back of a chair.

For the jacket

1) draw him with his shirt off and have his arms be the sleeves

or

have the sleeves semi-transparent so that it looks like they are from another shirt.

I wouldn't actually even draw the legs for the jacket picture.... you could just have a flash of light or smoke spiraling downward to look like his legs have magically vanished.

It could be sort of like how the Genie in Aladdin looks when his legs are gone, but you could probably make it look more detailed than that.
